About us
The goal of the Restigouche Rivers Watershed Management Council (RRWMC) is to ensure conservation and restoration of the Restigouche River salmon resource and its habitat for the benefit of all Canadians – particularly those participating or otherwise involved in the salmon fisheries and the local communities.
We are representatives of a number of interests who benefit from the wild Atlantic salmon resource of the Restigouche River watershed and have come together to form the Restigouche River Watershed Management Council. The parties we represent are strongly motivated to ensure the protection and well being of the Restigouche salmon resource. Collectively these parties provide significant local employment (400+) and expend millions of dollars annually within the Restigouche watershed towards salmon conservation and management. We represent the socio-political realities of the salmon fishing interests in the Restigouche watershed.
The Council advocates that the interests of all parties will be better served and that the benefits from the salmon resource are more likely to be optimized if all interested parties pool their efforts and work together towards a common vision for the resource. It is the intent of the Council to foster expansion of the management program and to strive to harmonize the activities of the multiple parties and jurisdictions contributing to the conduct of that program.
